Why Your Website Is Killing Your Conversions (And How to Fix It)

Problem 1: No Clear Hierarchy

When someone lands on your website, they should know within three seconds who you are, what you do, and what you want them to do next. If your headline is vague, your sub-headline is missing, and your CTA is buried below the fold β€” you've already lost them.

The fix is simple: one primary message per page. Start with the biggest problem your customer has. Then show how you solve it. Then tell them what to do. In that order.

Problem 2: Competing Calls-to-Action

Three buttons. Four links. A popup. A floating chat widget. A sticky footer bar. Every element on your page is competing for the visitor's attention β€” and when everything is important, nothing is.

A confused buyer doesn't buy. They leave.

Pick one primary CTA per page and make it impossible to miss. Everything else β€” secondary links, nav items, social icons β€” should be quieter. Supporting cast, not the lead actor.

Problem 3: Stock Photos That Scream Generic

Stock photos of smiling people in suits shaking hands in a glass office. You know the ones. They signal to your visitor, at a subconscious level, that you don't have anything real to show them.

Real photos of your team, your workspace, your process β€” or even well-crafted illustrations β€” convert better than stock. If you don't have real photos yet, abstract imagery or high-quality illustration beats generic stock every time.

Problem 4: Speed β€” The Silent Killer

53% of mobile visitors abandon a page that takes more than 3 seconds to load. If your site is running unoptimized images, loading five font families, and using a WordPress theme with 40 active plugins β€” you're probably losing half your mobile traffic before they even see your headline.

Problem 5: No Mobile-First Thinking

You built your site on a 27-inch monitor. Your clients are viewing it on a cracked iPhone while commuting. What looks clean and spacious on desktop becomes a cluttered mess on mobile β€” text too small to read, buttons too close to tap, forms impossible to fill out.

Design mobile first. Then scale up. The constraints of mobile force you to keep only what matters β€” which makes your desktop version better too.
